Service area

Chattanooga and Hamilton County, Tennessee

Chattanooga Tree Pros matches tree work across Hamilton County, TN: Chattanooga, Hixson, East Ridge, Red Bank, Signal Mountain, Ooltewah, Soddy-Daisy, Collegedale, and the unincorporated areas between them. The service is the same everywhere — an independent local crew, quoted and done under its own name — so this is one page, not eight. What does change from one part of the county to the next is which rules apply, how hard the access is, and who your utility is.

What changes by area

  • Whether the Chattanooga Tree Ordinance applies It is a City of Chattanooga code. Inside the city, street trees are City property and need a permit; a single-family yard does not. The other municipalities have their own codes, and the County its own; we have reviewed neither.
  • Access and terrain Ridge and bluff lots — Signal Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Stringers Ridge — often have no truck access to the tree. Everything comes up by rope. That is the single biggest local price factor.
  • The utility Most of the county is EPB territory. EPB prunes its primary lines and lowers your service drop for a crew on request. Check your bill if you are on the fringes.
  • What is growing Old-lot white oaks and tulip poplars in the city; loblolly pine on the clay slopes of Hixson, Ooltewah and Soddy-Daisy; ice-prone hardwood crowns on the plateau.

AreaTree codeNotes
Chattanooga (city)City of Chattanooga ordinance appliesDowntown, North Chattanooga, Riverview, Highland Park, Brainerd, East Brainerd, St. Elmo, Alton Park, Lookout Valley and the annexed parts of Hixson and Ooltewah. Older neighborhoods have the biggest street trees (City property — permit before any work) and the most mature oaks and poplars over roofs.
HixsonMostly inside the CityMost of Hixson is within Chattanooga city limits; the outer edges toward Soddy-Daisy are unincorporated county. Loblolly pine on red clay — wind-throw after wet weeks is the common storm call.
East RidgeSeparate city — own codeIts own municipality. Flat lots, mature hardwoods close to houses, and the state line a few streets south — crews serving East Ridge should be Tennessee-registered businesses.
Red BankSeparate city — own codeIts own municipality on the north side of Stringers Ridge. Steep rear lots on the ridge side; trees below the house often have no truck access.
Signal MountainSeparate town — own codePlateau-top town; the brow lots are the hardest access in the county, with trees on the bluff side reachable only by rope. Ice-storm limb damage on big hardwoods is the winter pattern.
OoltewahPart City, part countyA mix of annexed Chattanooga and unincorporated Hamilton County; check your address. Newer subdivisions mean younger trees and smaller jobs, except on the older farm lots.
Soddy-DaisySeparate city — own codeIts own municipality at the north end of the county. Larger lots, more pine, more land-clearing-size jobs; travel fees are possible from crews based in town.
CollegedaleSeparate city — own codeIts own municipality east of Ooltewah. Campus-adjacent neighborhoods with mature plantings; otherwise similar to Ooltewah.

"Own code" means we have not read that municipality's ordinance and do not summarize it; check with that town before assuming the Chattanooga rules apply. The Chattanooga rules themselves are on the permit page.

Not covered: North Georgia

Fort Oglethorpe, Ringgold, Rossville and the rest of Catoosa, Walker and Dade counties are a different state with different rules, and our guides are written to Tennessee law. We don't match requests there.

What we match, everywhere in the area

Prices are the same question everywhere: the cost guide shows the dated ranges, and how matching works explains what happens after you send a request.

Service area questions

Do you cover North Georgia — Fort Oglethorpe, Ringgold, Rossville?

Not at this time. Georgia has different contractor, utility and tree-law rules from Tennessee, and this site's guides are written to Tennessee law and the City of Chattanooga ordinance. We match requests on the Tennessee side of the line only.

Does the Chattanooga tree ordinance apply to my address?

Only if you are inside the City of Chattanooga. Signal Mountain, Red Bank, East Ridge, Collegedale, Soddy-Daisy, Lookout Mountain and Walden have their own codes (which we have not summarized), and unincorporated Hamilton County is governed by the County, whose code we have not reviewed. Hixson and Ooltewah are split — check your address on the county GIS or your tax bill.

Is EPB my electric utility?

For most of the service area, yes — EPB serves Chattanooga and much of Hamilton County. A few outlying areas are served by other utilities; your bill says which. The EPB page explains who prunes what; if your utility is different, the same principle applies — call them before any work near a primary line.

Do crews charge extra to come to my area?

Inside the core area, rarely. For the far ends of Soddy-Daisy or Sale Creek, a crew based in town may add travel; national guides put that at a per-mile rate or a small flat fee. Ask when you request the quote.
