Best Tree Services in Chattanooga, TN — Seven Real Companies, What Each Is Good For, and How to Choose

Seven tree companies actually rank or publish for Chattanooga searches as of October 2026: Bartlett, Big Woody's, Chattanooga Tree Service Inc., Lumberjacks, Samayoa, Scenic City Arborists and Tree Worx. This page describes each from its own website — services, what it says about itself, what kind of job it fits — with no star ratings we can't verify and no ranking. Then it shows how to pick between them.

How this list was made — and what it is not

We searched Google for the Chattanooga terms homeowners actually use — tree service, tree removal, tree removal cost, best tree service — on October 25, 2026, and took every company that appeared in the organic results (ignoring the map pack and the directories). Then we read each company's own website and wrote down what it says it does. That is the whole method. We did not rank them, as of October 25, 2026 we have no commercial relationship with any of them, and we did not copy star ratings because we cannot verify them. Where a company makes a claim about itself ("since 1975", "licensed arborists") we report it as the company's statement, not as fact we checked.

Chattanooga Tree Pros is a referral service, not a tree company. When you ask us for a match, we connect you with an independent local company; it may or may not be one of the seven below.

Seven Chattanooga tree companies, alphabetically

1. Bartlett Tree Experts — Chattanooga office

Fit: Plant health care, diagnosis, pruning programs

The Chattanooga branch of a national tree-care company. Its location page lists tree and shrub care for the Tennessee Valley with a local office phone and email. The fit: scientific tree care — soil, pests, disease, structural pruning — for trees you intend to keep, backed by a large company's research arm. Less often the first call for a one-off removal.

2. Big Woody's Tree Service

Fit: Removal, storm response, land clearing

A Chattanooga company whose site describes tree removal, trimming, stump grinding, land clearing and 24/7 storm response, and states it has operated since 2009. The fit: full-service residential work including storm calls and lot clearing.

3. Chattanooga Tree Service Inc.

Fit: Large removals, crane work, trimming

A long-established Chattanooga tree company on Igou Gap Road whose site presents it as operating since 1975. It was at or near the top of the organic results for tree removal and tree trimming searches in Chattanooga when we checked. The fit: conventional removal, trimming and crane work from a company with a long local track record.

4. Lumberjacks Tree Service

Fit: Removal, stump grinding, emergency response

A Chattanooga company on Bonny Oaks Drive whose site describes tree removal, trimming, stump grinding and 24/7 emergency response, and states it has served the area since 2012. It was one of the top two organic results for the general "tree service Chattanooga" search when we checked and publishes service pages for most Hamilton County neighborhoods. The fit: responsive residential removals and emergency work.

5. Samayoa Tree Service

Fit: Removal, land clearing, cleanup

A Chattanooga company whose site describes tree care, land clearing, stump grinding, property cleanup and emergency storm-damage work. The fit: removals, clearing and cleanup.

6. Scenic City Arborists

Fit: Pruning, assessments, tree health

A Chattanooga company that presents its work through an arborist lens — assessments, pruning and preventive care — and whose cost page lists the factors it quotes on (size, risk, access, obstacles, time) and offers to leave limbs or provide mulch to lower the price. The fit: healthy-tree pruning and assessments of whether a tree needs to come down at all.

7. Tree Worx Arbor Services (Tree Worx LLC)

Fit: Removals near power lines, insurance documentation

A Chattanooga company whose site describes tree removal, trimming, pruning, stump grinding and emergency work and states that its arborists are licensed. Of the seven, it is the only one we found publishing dated seasonal guides (a Fall 2025 cost guide, an EPB line-clearance guide, an emerald ash borer guide), though its cost guide lists factors rather than prices. The fit: removals near EPB lines — its FAQ says it coordinates with EPB and TVA — and insurance-claim documentation.

How to choose between them

The useful question is not "who is best" but "who is the right fit for this job". The pattern that holds across the seven:

  • Keeping the tree → arborist-led companies Pruning programs, disease diagnosis, "does this oak need to come down?" — Bartlett, Scenic City Arborists, and companies that put a certified arborist on site.
  • Big removal, crane, tight lot → the large-equipment companies Chattanooga Tree Service Inc. and Lumberjacks present themselves around removals and emergency work; ask specifically about crane access on ridge lots.
  • Tree near EPB lines → ask who coordinates with EPB Tree Worx says it does. Whoever you call, EPB lowers the service drop on request; nobody but EPB touches the primary.
  • Price-driven, straightforward job → get three quotes For a clean removal in open yard or a stump-only job, the spread between quotes is often wider than the difference between companies. Samayoa and Big Woody's both describe clearing and cleanup work.

Five questions that separate a good quote from a bad one

  1. "Can you email me the certificate of insurance before the visit?" General liability and workers' compensation, with the carrier's name. A company that hesitates is the answer.
  2. "Are you registered with the City's Urban Forestry Program?" Chattanooga's 2025 ordinance (Sec. 32-318) requires anyone doing paid work on a tree over 12 inches in diameter to register, hold a City business licence and carry liability insurance. An unregistered crew can be stopped mid-job.
  3. "What exactly is included?" Felling, sectioning, hauling, chipping, stump — each is a separate line. The cost guide prices every one so you can compare like with like.
  4. "Who is climbing, and who is on the ground?" A two-person crew for an 80-ft oak over a house is a warning sign.
  5. "Is this a flat price?" Hourly ($100–$400+ per hour nationally) is fine for storm cleanup of unknown scope; for a defined removal you want a number.
One more test. Any company that offers to top a tree — cut the crown back to stubs to make it shorter — is telling you how it works. Topping is banned on public trees in Chattanooga (Sec. 32-310(d)) and ruins private ones. See tree trimming for what to ask for instead.

Sources and dates

Every figure and rule above names where it came from and the date it was read. If a source disagrees with a quote you receive, the quote wins — it reflects your tree, your access, and this month's demand. Prices are rechecked at least every six months.

Choosing a tree company

Who is the best tree service in Chattanooga?

There is no single answer, and any page that gives you one without saying how it decided is selling something. The list above names seven companies that actually rank or publish in Chattanooga, describes each from its own website, and says which kind of job each is a fit for. Pick two or three for your job, get written quotes, and verify insurance before you hire.

Why doesn't this page show star ratings?

Because we don't have independent verification of them, and review counts change weekly. Google and Yelp show ratings live; we link each company so you can look there. What we can verify — what each company says it does, and whether it publishes prices or guides — is on this page.

Are these companies licensed?

Tennessee has no state licence specific to tree work; the state contractor licence applies at $25,000 and up for any trade. Chattanooga's 2025 ordinance requires tree companies to register with the Urban Forestry Program, hold a City business licence and carry liability insurance. The insurance is what protects you — check it before every job.

How do I get matched instead of calling around?

Chattanooga Tree Pros is a referral service: describe the job and we route it to an independent local company that handles that kind of work in your part of Hamilton County. The company quotes and does the work under its own name. Free, no obligation, and you can still get other quotes.
